What is Music Therapy?

According to the American Music Therapy Association, "Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program." Simply put, Music Therapists use music to reach non-musical objectives relating to communication, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and physical goals. Some techniques that we implement include active music making, (playing a wide variety of success oriented instruments), songwriting, sound healing/sound baths, lyric analysis, relaxation, movement/dance, creative arts with music (drum painting, album art, etc.) beat-making, lyric writing, free-styling, recording, mindful listening/song sharing, and adaptive lessons.
