About

Rita Canny is a Registered, Board Certified Art Therapist and Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She received her Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from Pratt Institute. Rita’s specialities include trauma and dissociation utilizing a multimodal treatment approach that emphasizes compassion, curiosity, and creativity.

 

Over the past 20 years, Rita has enjoyed working with children, teens and adults in New York City, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. She has worked in private residences, inpatient psychiatry, continuing day treatment, educational and rehabilitation settings. There she has developed robust art therapy programs, supervised graduate and post graduate students in Art Therapy, served as The Director of Public Relations for the Northern California Art Therapy Association, and presented professionally and publicly on Art Therapy and it’s benefits.

Rita is committed to her own creative process as a mixed media artist. Her wide knowledge of materials and techniques, combined with her creativity, enables her to provide highly personalized approaches to meaningful work with her clients. She enjoys working expressively with others through sensory oriented play. She brings an empathic and playful approach to her work that supports her ability to engage clients and build trusting relationships.
